10th January '09 - Advertising On Websites.

I was just looking at a website all about the British handover of Hong Kong to China, and how the Hong Kong people's views weren't listened to, and they had no choice in the matter.

It was a big scandle that I could go on about but that's not the point of this blog entry and there are a million other websites about that subject anyway.

My point is, even though it was a serious website there were so many ads and pop-ups that it became unusable to navigate around. There were even ads for sexcams and adult sites that were nothing to do with the subject matter of the site.

I've noticed long ago that 'home-made' sites are often better than 'professional-sites' because they're not trying to sell you anything and they don't bombard you with advertising, but it's sometimes rediculous the amount of advertising on one page. I've got anti-popup on my web browser but they seem to get around it.

I don't mind an advert at the top or the bottom of the screen but all over the place makes the website unviewable.
